The 1960’s RAND Corporation Paper Titled - UFOs: What to Do? (Part Two)

Hello and welcome back to The Heavy Stuff (THS) - thanks for visiting today. As you can see from the title of today’s post, I will be wrapping up the look at the RAND paper written in 1969 accessing the Ufo situation at that time. And, as I showed in Part One http://theheavystuff.com/?p=109 some things have `changed’ about UFO’s, but mostly, it is very similar to what is reported these days. (This is the direct link to the report by RAND - http://www.nicap.org/papers/randdoc.htm)

To summarize part one - what hasn’t changed is that anomalous lights have been appearing in the sky since before the Ufo Era - but that today’s era is less likely to see a `saucer’ shaped craft than before. Indeed, the term flying saucer has largely be replaced by the more generic term UFO - which includes all type of crafts - including today’s increasingly V shaped craft.

Part One also covered how in the past - that Ufo’s were more thought of as a security threat; a feature of UFO’s that our media seldom features as important. (Which leads to thoughts that our media is censored in this area.) We also covered in Part One how the CIA decided that Ufo’s were not a military threat and that the best idea was to belittle the observers of Ufo’s “It was the CIA’s recommendation, apparently, that was made policy, for the investigative procedures used since 1953 have been vestigial and the handling of the subject by the authorities tended to make witnesses look ridiculous.”

Further points in Part One include the astonishing figures of the probable number of planets in JUST the Milky Way that could have inhabitable systems - try 400 million to 2.4 billion in just OUR Milky Way galaxy. A number our media never even begins to explore. The paper then suggested we look for phenomenology that might represent `crafts’ that are visiting Earth - when doing so - the paper presented close-up Ufo sightings that could as easily come from today’s databases about Ufo’s. The paper suggested that these close-up cases cannot be explained away.

Looking quantitatively at the phenomena the report suggested that the majority of crafts were shaped as a disk/oval/circle - silver/metallic/or white as a color - except at night - when the plurality color associated with UFO’s was red.

Part Two

The first thing of interest is that some observers of UFO’s indicated that they `turn-on and turn-off’ — sometimes even with the flashing of a hand light or vehicle lights - a phenomena that when reported today - causes smirks of untold proportion. Sometimes the lights flash on and off or change color rhythmically. Several cases have been reported of the UFO flashing its lights in response to the witness flashing hand or vehicular lights. In other cases the lights winked off with the approach of another car or an aircraft, only to turn on again when the vehicle had passed….The last class, that of violent and erratic maneuvers, most clearly lacks an explanation from current physical theory. Using terms like bobbing, erratic, jerky, zigzag, dark, and shot away, witnesses describe motions involving high angular accelerations and velocities. A number of radar observations appear to substantiate this anomalous behavior. Among the 40 cases showing such characteristics, NICAP finds that 28 percent were reported by scientific or other appropriately experienced personnel. And, as you know, these behaviours are still observed of UFO’s.

Also covered by the NICAP report are Ufo `flaps’ - “NICAP lists a number of these “flaps”. Sometimes they are very localized, covering only a small portion of a state for a period of a few weeks. APRO concludes, on the basis of the reports available to them, that the patterns of appearance follow phases - atomic test areas and installations in the late 1940s and early 50s, rivers, reservoirs and bodies of water in the late 50s and early 60s and now electrical distribution systems.”

The report then covered:

Interactions with the Environment

Interactions of UFOs with the environment produce a kind of believability that pure visual observations will never do. Some examples of interaction are cases showing electromagnetic disturbances in practically every kind of device — radio, TV, auto ignition, aircraft electronics, compass, magnetometer, magnetic automobile speedometer, etc. NICAP lists 106 examples. NICAP also lists 81 cases of radar

-28-tracking of UFOs, most of which were simultaneous with visual sightings, and a number of which involved use of interceptors.” There seems little doubt that these events were real with this type of proof. Here is the NICAP summary: “In summary, we see a wide, almost exasperating range of reported phenomenology. By careful interviews with witnesses and analysis of a large number of reports the significant patterns in phenomenonology should appear. If the UFOs are a new manifestation of nature, they should exhibit some patterns of appearance or behavior which would aid in identifying and predicting them. If of extraterrestrial origin and intelligently guided it may be possible to anticipate appearances. This will be discussed in the next and final essay.”

Finally, the RAND report gets to its conclusions about what UFO’s might be - I don’t see any new suggestions - now - decades later:

1. Hoaxes, fabrications, and frauds. 2.Hallucinations, mass hysteria, and rumor phenomena 3. Misinterpretations of well known physical phenomena 4.Poorly understood physical phenomena (rare electrical or moteorological effects, plasmas). 5.Advanced technologies (test vehicles, satellites, reentry effects). 6. Poorly understood psychic phenomena (psychic projections, archetypal images, parapsychological phenomena, etc). It is difficult to comment on this possibility because the current lack of knowledge of parapsychology. While a (small) number of UFO reports do exhibit aspects of parapsychological phenomenology (25) general relationships have yet to be convincingly demonstrated. 7.Extraterrestrial probes. A possibility commonly held by the public and commonly rejected by scientists. Prof. McDonald believes a number of sightings are best explained by this hypothesis 8. Messengers of salvation and occult truth. This explanation is listed because of the nature of certain reports (particularly “contact” reports — reports involving communication of UFO occupants and the witnesses) and because of the historical aspects of the phenomenology. 9.Other

The report then goes on to say:Clearly, the explanation of UFOs will interest someone. Psychologists have an interest in 1, 2, 3 and 6; theologians in category 8, scientists in 4 and 7. Therefore, whatever the explanation, it is a problem of at least average interest. If, by chance, the explanation is 7, or even 8 (and possibly 6) the value to society would be profound and significant. In this sense, an identification of the phenomenon would be a task of highest potential urgency. The report then goes on suggesting organizing groups of scientists to study reports worldwide; concluding with:

Certainly the conclusions drawn by NICAP from reports in their file are startling and, if valid worthy of considerable scientific effort. It would be much more convincing if data could be collected worldwide and if the most interesting reports could be intensively and completely investigated. I believe current reports justify the expanded data collection and analysis effort.

Quite a report - wouldn’t you say? Wouldn’t it be nice if we had an open-minded science community like the good old days? When certain topics were not off limits to the media? Wouldn’t it have been nice if some area of science studied this for the last 40 years - since this report? And, if you were in the government 40 years ago - would you have let this report collect dust - forever?

So, what is my bottom line? ———— Little has changed, except perhaps - new variation in design (more V’s) - which to me suggests - back engineered `human’ ufo’s are more numerous. And, that would be the reason the secrecy has gotten even more intense and the media reason for laying off sensitive areas of the controversy.

What do you think? I look forward to your comments. And, if you want more UFO stuff - visit my UFO blog - at www.ufodisclosurecountdownclock.blogspot.com for much more controversy.

Gallons Of Disclosure, Disclosure Everywhere - And - Not Even A `Sip’ Of `Confirmation’ To Drink

Two days ago I received an E-Mail from one of the top `ufo’ websites - providing me a heads up on the Ufo Disclosure that was happening in Brazil and perhaps Sweden too. And, like all of the recent `disclosures’ of decades old material concerning unidentified flying objects - the documents numbered in the 1,000’s if not 10’s of 1,000’s. All of these `disclosures’ getting 15 minutes of fame - at best - on the big media and really only lasting a few days on the internet buzz factor.

And, when such events happen - disclosure events that is - those perhaps 300,000 in the USA who actually care about the issue due to seeing a UFO themselves - or - the very very few, who actually think that the government has a shred of concern about truthfulness on things - tend to get all excited. Maybe even begin to think the time is closer for the USA to do such a thing.

But, like last month’s O’Hare UFO Video Hoax — does it really matter if `this’ is what `disclosure’ is going to amount to? A several foot high pile of old papers that look like they belong in some other era? With old stories of high strangeness that make the whole subject nearly inaccessible to 95% of people even interested in the general phenomena of UFOs? With many if not most of the `witnesses’ dead or now older folks with foggy memories?

It doesn’t even matter if the material within such `disclosure’ even has direct mention of `alien beings’ - really - as the `accounts’ amount really to a `subjective view’ of an eyewitness (and this is the level of belief the media gives it). Nowhere do we find the beyond a doubt objective proof - the beyond a doubt clear photograph or film evidence - or left behind calendar from another planet (or any artifact) — having to be `satisfied’ with the golly shucks `now what could that be’ - as the level of `concern-or-seriousness’ given to the experiences. No dead alien bodies, and no crashed spaceships.

NONE of these `disclosure countries’ (note how I’m putting disclosure with a small D) after the `release’ of the material has had their President saying — “So there it is folks - alien beings are in our skies“. NONE. NADA. ZILCH. What the hell kind of disclosure is THAT? Is THAT the kind of `disclosure’ coming to America? Some sort of `disclosure’ that DOESN’T INCLUDE some statement concerning a confirmation of `current alien intrusion’?

If so, - to me - don’t even bother - would be my advice.

But, frankly, this is how it probably will `come down’ - that is, without any confirmation - it’s the way politicians like to operate. Some `middle’ position that is most palatable to the `most’ that somehow is to be interpreted as `them’ doing the right thing for the sheeple. You know, being `transparent’.

Or, am I just too much of a cynic?

The 1960’s RAND Corporation Paper Titled - UFOs: What to Do? (Part One)

Recently on my main Squidoo page I carried a link to an article on the NICAP site (National Investigations Committee On Aerial Phenomena) which was a paper made by a high level research group (basically a thinktank) in the 1960’s about Ufo’s (all links at bottom of article) . So, in today’s post, I want to review some of the basic assumptions that existed then, 40 years ago, and, see if `things’ have really changed all that much in terms of `reasonable science analysis’ being applied to the phenomena of Ufo’s.

The research paper - a long one - is divided as shown below in its contents section:

INTRODUCTION . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . 1
Part 1: UFO’s: Historical Aspects . . . . . . . . . . . 2
Part 2: UFO’s: Astronomical Aspects . . . . . . . . 8
Part 3: UFO’s: The Character of Reports . . .. . 12
Part 4: UFO’s: Phenomenological Aspects . …. 24
Part 5: UFO’s: How to Proceed and Why . . . . 29
A REPORT FORM . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 33
BIBLIOGRAPHY . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 40

The introduction begins with these words: “UFOs — unidentified flying objects, or flying saucers as they are often called — have been on the mind of the public for at least the last 22 years.”  Perhaps most startling from the papers introduction - is the total move away from the term `flying saucers’ in the modern age. Could that be because the `reports’ these days seem to involve multiple categories of `crafts’ being seen such as V shapes and more? And, that the typical `saucer’ shape is no longer a majority! (I blogged about this recently in an analysis I did of reports recently - link on the bottom.)

PART 1: UFOs — HISTORICAL ASPECTS

But, don’t let the term `flying saucer’ diminish your desire to read this research - for - as soon as the real verbiage begins after the introduction - it immediately begins to sound pretty similar to the oft told tale of Ufo Buffs in today’s era.

And, to me, that oft told tale involves the idea of `this is NOT NEW phenomena’ (Ufo’s are not new.) — and — indeed, that is how the `historical’ account of the research begins: “Those familiar with the UFO literature are aware that reports of sightings did not begin with Arnold’s sighting in 1947, but that phenomenology much the same as is reported today can be found in documents going back to the earliest times……. What (`phenomenology’) was reported? Luminous discs, shields, globes and elongated objects in the sky, sometimes alone, sometimes in large numbers. Occasional descriptions of interactions with the observers are also mentioned, including landings, and seeing and communicating with occupants. The latter events especially were almost always interpreted in a religious context.” (emphasis and bracket, mine)

So, we can see that 4 decades ago - `flying saucers’ also included most of the descriptions of today’s phenomena too. Indeed, this paper even ascribes the strange events at Fatima, Portugal in 1917 as possible Ufo phenomenology witnessed at times by upwards of 70,000 persons of all religious levels and types.

The study goes on to talk about the incredible number of sightings that surrounded the time-frame of Kenneth Arnolds sighting in 1947 - “The modern period of the phenomenon began with a widely publicized sighting made by Kenneth Arnold in Washington state in 1947. A study by Bloecher of North American reports over the four week period bracketing the Arnold sighting lists 853 events, including 38 sightings made before Arnold’s heavily publicized Sighting. (8)

When I read that there were over 800 events in the summer of 47 - it blew my mind - certainly, that number is not widely known or talked about today. Indeed, it brings into speculation - just what exactly was going on? What happened on Earth to bring about such a `response’? Is it the obvious `answer’ of humans moving into the `nuke age’? And,  if so, why the exaggerated and `delayed’ response if it was that - after all - the nukes first went `off’ in 1945. (Unless secret tests, still unknown, happened before hand.) Indeed, did those first or subsequent A-Bombs `move’ the Earth itself from `expected locations’ - which set off `programs’ on `entities or hardware monitoring Earth’?

Could it be that Entities that monitor for the actual ability for a species to `move a planet’ from a projected path - exist? And, who know that when a `planet moves’ that a species on the planet has aquired the abilitiy to harness energy via their intelligence? Indicating that a threshold has been crossed?

It seems that way to me - but - lets move onward with the research paper.

Because the early reports seemed to suggest airborne craft of unusual appearance and kinematics, the problem came to rest with the newly organized U.S. Air Force. Initial fears were that the country was being over flown by advanced foreign aircraft, possibly on intelligence missions. The latter was suggested by the large number of sightings from the White Sands, New Mexico area and from the vicinity of the Hanford, Washington atomic plant…. Serious inquiry proceeded for a few years without any positive results” And, as to be expected - National Security was a concern. Indeed, our government had a more serious response it seems then - than our `modern age’ of governance - which, evidently, wants to sweep away the very idea that intelligence greater than man might exist. Indeed, now, the emphasis of the media is NOT on Ufo’s breaking military security zones - ever - really. To talk about that nowadays - even though it happens (or is reported to) - is obviously another of the areas that are off-limits for our weakened and spoon fed big media. (Sad to say.)

No, in today’s modern era, ufo’s are portrayed as `strange things’ seen by the common man - nowadays. It makes one wonder if even reporting about security violations by Ufo’s is permitted by the government for big media.

Again, from the report ” By 1952 the number of reports coming in was so large that the CIA was concerned that an actual attack on the country might not be immediately recognized. A panel of scientists was then convened in January 1953 to study the available evidence and see what conclusion could be reached about UFOs. After seven days of hearing evidence and discussing the matter it was concluded that there was only circumstantial evidence of the extraterrestrial hypothesis. The panel recommended a broadened study effort with full disclosure of investigations. In order to unplug the military intelligence channels, however, the CIA recommended that, since the UFOs apparently posed no threat, the Air Force should debunk UFO reports and try generally to discourage public interest in them, in the hope that they would go away. (11) … It was the CIA’s recommendation, apparently, that was made policy, for the investigative procedures used since 1953 have been vestigial and the handling of the subject by the authorities tended to make witnesses look ridiculous.” There could hardly be a more revealing paragraph than this one — as - the government still seems to simply hope that the `reports go away’ - does treat those that come forward with ridicule - and discourages the public from an interest in disclosure. In this regard, what comes around - goes around - and has never left.

PART 2: UFOs — ASTRONOMICAL ASPECTS

“The astonishing thing would be if they did not exist.” Jean Cocteau

From this section of the report  - “To begin with, the observable universe — that is, the distance to which we can observe luminous objects — is several billion light years in radius ” Scientists, as you probably know,  have expanded that radius of our universe considerably - indeed, we now know that `beyond the observable universe’ is simply `more universe’ that will never be part of our observable area.

Indeed, again, as you probably know, because of `dark energy’ more and more of the universe is being pushed `over’ the observable `edge’ every moment of existence now. “Now let us just consider the stars in our own galaxy — specifically excluding those in neighboring or distant galaxies…Since planetary orbits are often unstable in multiple systems (depending on the details of the configuration) we will say that only 30 billion stars in our galaxy now have a dynamical environment that permits planets to exist around them. …..In fact if we select only those stars similar to the sun (whose peak of radiation energy coincides with a region of terrestrial atmospheric transparency) we have only a few percent of the total — about one in 30. Therefore, we would expect about 1000 million suitable solar type stars exist. Of these, it is estimated by various astronomers that 200-600 million have planets at about the right distance and have been around long enough that life forms as developed as our own could exist” Now, dear readers, remember here - we are ONLY talking about the Milky Way - our galaxy- and not even ONE of the other billions within the observable universe - and - indeed, the 1960’s estimate of 100 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy that you read above — well, that turns out according to 2009 estimates to be 200-400 billion stars. So, at whatever level previous `life’ estimates were based on, just for the Milky Way - multiply that by a factor of 2-4.

So, if 200-600 hundred million was a reasonable assumption - we better make that 400 million to 2.4 billion systems with habitable planets - just in the MILKY WAY. I mean WOW - what an astonishing number. This number certainly is larger for the Milky Way than is ever really brandished about in the big meda we are all fed and fattened with. No wonder the Vatican has a more modest position now on life elsewhere.

Then, though a process of sieving the information - we get this analysis - and remember, the estimate is already `off’ by a `factor’ of 2x-4x “It should be clear from assumption (3) and the example of our own development, that among the populated planets those younger than the sun would be peopled by beings very much behind us technologically, while those on older planets would be extraordinarily advanced (remember our progress of 500 years and note that some planets could be as much as a few billion years older). Indeed, we would be surprised to find someone else at just our stage of technological development. For the purposes of this paper, we can ignore both the multitude younger than ourselves and those at our point of development. Even so, we are left with the possibility of 100,000,000 planets in the galaxy having life forms very much advanced from us. (This number would be reduced significantly if life forms destroyed themselves soon after reaching our age of development. This is a philosophical point on which I am optimistic — I believe the majority of races will learn to survive.) If these stars are uniformly distributed in the galactic disk, the average separation will be about 10 light years. ” (emphasis mine)

Wow. How is this number analysis for a sobering realization as to what `the numbers’ might suggest? Wouldn’t you say that advanced life is more likely, and abundant, than normally suggested  by our big media? I would suggest - YES.

Indeed, if the average was 10 light years for advanced life - it really makes `visitors’ to our planet potentially `any-lifeform’ attaining `interstellar travel’ be it above or even below the speed of light (SOL) if at a significant % of the SOL.

(That is not to suggest that `entities’ from planets traveling at only a small fraction of light - `are everywhere’ - obviously, if that was the manner that real interstellar travel is occurring - then, only a `fraction’ of `intelligences’ will be able to organize engineering and have `the will or desire’ to carry out galactic missions.)

Here is an excerpt of what the RAND paper said about this issue of interstellar travel ”If it has been discovered by one, we certainly would expect it to be used; if no other planet’s inhabitants independently discovered the means, it makes little difference for such a thing could be taught by the discoverer. Thus we may conclude that it is very likely that at least one, and probably many of the 100 million advanced planetary populations is capable of interstellar travel. ” And, with this logic - paper next goes to this “The next question is, of course, have any of them been here? That question cannot yet be answered definitively. Without knowing what kind of phenomenology extraterrestrial visitors might exhibit, I will fall back on my scientific, mechanistic attitudes and say it makes sense to look for some kind of vehicle or spaceship. It appears that the class of phenomenology called UFO reports may contain, as a subset, actual observations of such craft. We shall now turn to the reports “

PART 3: UFOs — THE CHARACTER OF REPORTS

It’s in the character of the reports where the RAND Corp. looks for the `interesting cases’ “The really interesting class of reports is that reporting phenomenology which is clearly extraordinary. The observer’s qualifications may be such that the report is not only highly credible but is articulate and quantitative as well. It is this subclass of reports, variously estimated at 5 to 20 percent of the total, that offer hope of our learning what is going on…. Hynek considers two parameters of reports) credibility and strangeness, and suggests that the investigator really needs only to be concerned with reports having high strangeness and high credibility. The physical scientist is in a position to evaluate strangeness, the social scientist should be able to provide some measure of credibility” The report then picks 4 ufo incidents to focus on - and here - again - the `reports’ from those seeing ufo’s:

Incident one : “It was moving slowly and silently in an east-to-west direction at not over 50 ft. above street level….’The UFO appeared to be about the size of one of the Cape Cod houses over which it passed, which would make it approximately 30 ft. in diameter and about the same dimension in height. It was circular, surmounted by a dome giving off flashes of green light. The center section rotated a series of square shaped “windows”, each giving off a brilliant white light. The base section was somewhat saucer-shaped, ….All told, there were at least 15 persons in the vicinity who acknowledged seeing the object at about the same time as the sightings”

Then, incident two: “After a minute or so, as she now recalls it, a new object, perhaps three of four times as large as the little objects, came out of the cloud on its east side. After it emerged, the small objects began to emerge also, taking up a V-formation pattern behind it. The V comprised a line of four-abreast just to the rear of the large object, then a line of three-abreast behind that, and finally two-abreast in the rear. Thus the point of the V was to the rear (in the sense of the emergent and subsequent motion). This formation permitted the first accurate count of the small objects, nine in all. No sooner had the last pair emerged than all ten objects shot off to the northeast, climbing out of sight in a time that she thought was probably two to three seconds. She does not recall what happened to the cloud after the ten objects departed” So, here - in the OLD days of ufo’s - V formations and a `number of objects’ not just one.

Then, incident three:”Jay Munger, operator of an all-night bowling alley, was drinking coffee with two police officers, James Overton of the Corning force and Frank Rakes of the Orland force, when Munger suddenly spotted the object out the front windows of his bowling alley. In a moment all three were outside observing what they each described as a dark gray oval or disc-shaped object with a bright light shining upwards on its top and a dimmer light shining downward from the underside. A dark gray or black band encircled the mid-section of the object….

The weather was clear, no haze, no wind, according to the witnesses. Munger’s concise comment was “I’ve never seen anything like it before.” He estimated its “diameter” at perhaps 50-100 ft, and its vertical thickness as perhaps 15-20 ft, with some kind of edge (band) perhaps 5-10 ft thick. No sound was ever heard. Overton stated to me that he had no idea what it was, but that “there was no doubt it was a craft of some sort.” So, these crafts, these objects - come in different sizes and styles. Just like today’s reports.

Incident Four: “The children shouted to her to “come out and see the silent plane”. She writes “I glanced out the south window and there it was coming into sight just south of our 72 foot silo moving very slowly from east to west. It was about 35 feet high. My first thought was that it was a plane making an emergency landing, but when I saw it in full view, I knew it was no plane, not like anything I have ever seen. I hurried outside to join the children in the yard. It continued to move in a straight line to the west. We could see it clearly as it drifted over a 50 by 100 foot machine shed being built at the time [the workers were, however, in the fields this day]. It appeared to be larger than our car, and was more oval. There was a bluish glow around the ends, top, and bottom of it. It (the glow) wasn’t bright, since it was daylight yet, but more like a low cloud, haze, or fog; or a mixture of bluish-grey tiny bubbles floating along around it. The object was seen clearly. It was blue in color and appeared to be made of metal. You could see [longitudinal] seam lines. There was one black window…..it rose so quickly and was out of sight in just a few seconds. Our eyes could not follow it fast enough. This was certainly a fantastic thing”….”The surface appeared to be non-spectacular, like dull aluminum or metal, and blue, the color probably deriving from the self-luminous halo. Longitudinal seams were apparent, but no rivets or such were seen. The black rectangle was assumed to be a window and appeared to be recessed. It was not shiny, but “like the dark of night.” …Enough angular data was provided from building and landmark placement and sizes that it is possible to estimate the size of the metallic portion of the UFO at 16 to 20 feet in length, seen at a distance of 150 to 300 feet. Its linear speed was about 4 to 8 miles per hour, based on the above distances and timings obtained by re-enactment. It was visible for 4 minutes”….the observations are sufficiently detailed to give us adequate confidence that some sort of machine was present, behaving in a very extraordinary way. Some parts of the object are similar to other reports (the effervescent glow, the orange color on acceleration, the very black “window” (which sounds like a block-body absorber)). Other parts are unusual — the UFO’s prolate spheroidal shape and the pattern (although seeing the pattern would require the observer to be quite close)”….

It is this kind of sighting - the kind which is clearly inexplicable in contemporary terms, which causes me (and other interested persons) to take the whole subject so seriously. Hynek suggests that it is just this kind of sighting that often goes unreported, because the witness — especially if his education or training are appropriate — knows that what he saw was unambiguously extraordinary. And machine-like. A number of such reports were belatedly made after the University of Colorado study effort got underway. Apparently the witnesses waited for the respectability the UOC study brought to the subject. It is hoped that the scientific and intellectual climate will change to the point where witnesses, particularly those having the best qualifications, can feel free to report sightings and know that they are being taken seriously. ” (emphasis mine)

Frankly, these four reports could be culled from the database of 2009 reports too - except for the emphasis here (the report examples) on close up sightings (which also still occur but nowadays are almost `underground’ compared to `distant’ sightings).

Part 4 - Ufo’s — Phenomenological Aspects

The next section of the report is an analysis of the ontological phenomena known as ufo’s `gathered’ into three `views’ of the data:

The breakdown of NICAP’s 575 cases goes as follows

        Disc                            26 % 149      cases
        Round                           17 % 96      cases
        Oval/elliptical                 13 % 77      cases
        Cylindrical                     8.3 % 48      cases
        Triangular                      2 % 11      cases
Other (Radar, light source,     33.7% 194      cases

NICAP finds that of the 253 cases of daytime observations where color is stated, the results are

        Silver or metallic              34.8 % 88 cases
        White                           32.0 % 81 cases
        Specular                        13.4 % 34 cases
        Gray                            7.5 % 19 cases
        Black                           12.3 % 31 cases
Luminous rays are also reported, going up sometimes (particularly from domed
discs) downward (from hemispheric types principally, also from discs) and from
one UFO to another (spherical types). The luminous column is usually not
divergent. Excluding these interesting rays, the reported colors of UFOs seen
at night are, for 162 cases
        Red                             38.3 % 62 cases
        Orange                          15.4 % 25 cases
        Yellow                          17.3 % 28 cases
        Green                           13.0 % 21 cases
        Blue                            16.0 % 26 cases
        Purple                          0       0

The O’Hare Ufo Incident (part 5) - TWO New Videos Surface - Does It Matter?

Hello, welcome back to The Heavy Stuff  (THS) - I appreciate you hitting the link. As you may know, in the last 10 days or so, a `video’ of the 2006 O’Hare Ufo Incident made it’s way to YouTube along with a fairly detailed `explanation’ of the person who summited it. (All relevant links will be at the bottom of this post.) Then, within days, that person was contacted by another person who claimed to also `film’ the unexplained event that was in the process of occurring.

Perhaps it would be better to say that the `event’ was caught from two different angles  — but - both - taken with 2006 cellphone technology, or earlier. Indeed, both of the 50 or so second videos are so `primitive’ looking as to almost be funny to be the one thing presented to `prove’ the event occurred. That said,  both of the videos  offer some minimal detail and realness - including the take-off of a plane in the beginning frames of the one video. The `new video’ is taken from a completely different location further from the `event’ (the first original video is taken from a very severe angle underneath the craft).

And, as one might expect, immediately - naysayers appeared to refute the `video’ and, somewhat, the `story’ - but, what was surprising is that the first `take’ was given by a `ufo’ writer ——— not some skeptic crew. Indeed, the title of his article was `Hoaxers Are Getting Bored’ - and he based his view on ——— that of another person. (Which I found a little strange.) But, that person was - indeed - an `expert’ on the affair 2006 event having been part of the investigation by  National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena - which produced a `negative’ report on the event in 2007.  And, that was not the only `expert’ who offered a negative take - the other is from the MUFON representative from Illinois.

But, perhaps we need to back up - and - shake our memories a little harder before the `videos’ are declared  fakes and the event - once again - pushed under the rug. So, in that regard — who remembers that when this `event’ surfaced that the CNN man was interviewing an airport worker cloaked in silhouette with voice distortion? I mean, how long before OR after has it been that you have seen a major news organization allow a person on-camera with such a story IN SILHOUETTE? This was the very definition of a hot story.

Perhaps some folks took the `event’ for what it was - extremely anomalous and very potentially a national security threat. After all, as I’ve made clear with long detailed points in my other posts, IF REAL, the `event’ was either a protocol of disclosure by a set of aliens; OR, a `blackmail threat’ by a superior group of humans not connected with a government organization. Very Very serious subject matter. (Even worse perhaps than connected to a government organization.)

So, is the YouTube poster - to be dissed for waiting? I don’t think so!

So, is the YouTube poster - to be dissed for not disclosing who they are now? I don’t think so! After all, to have the `angle’ presented - so underneath the `craft’ - could only mean - to me - that the person WAS ON THE AIRPORT GROUNDS OUTSIDE - ie: an airport employee - the very type of person said to have first reported the incident.

The next dismissal of the story - that the size was not congruent with previous `estimates’ of the craft (the YouTube poster said it was 100 meters) — he also said the craft was `closer-lower’ than - again - prior `estimates’ (which would make the craft appear larger). Indeed, lots of the criticism seems based on the `overcast’ and 1,700-1,900 ft cloud base level - and that the craft was described as `just below the cloudbase’.

But, do the naysayers as quickly forget that at least two different `sizes’ were given in all the initial reports too - one saying 30 ft or so and another saying 7 feet. Is it so hard to imagine that the `craft-event’ went up and down during the sighting - seeing how it `shot’ up thru the cloudbank to end the event (leaving a hole in the clouds).  What if the height `varied’ somewhat and the `real size’ of the `craft-event’ was 65 feet and the height level 1,350 feet — are we really gonna diss this whole thing based on a size estimate and height estimate (the YouTube poster put the craft at 700 ft, not the 1,700 of the initial report - which of course had no evidence.)?

Or, how about the outrageous suggestion that the craft was BOTH sizes - based on a cloaking manner - or ability to project into ones consciousness. Or that eye-witnesses seldom agree completely.

But, another thing also struck me. The `evidence’ that has literally trickled out prior to the latest - was not one or two photos; but, four or five pictures (see those in the links below) – which again - at the time, were quickly dissed. But, one thing ——————- those  photos support this NEW INFORMATION.

Indeed, if you check my links below you will see a `much bluer sky’ in one of the photos - and in some of the other ones - the photo seems to show the UFO in indeed a lower altitude than the 1,700 feet estimate. Memories can be short when the information was conflicting even at the time - but - now - with new information - perhaps more is beginning to really take shape.

Indeed, if you look at all the pieces and use some thoughtful mindfulness, and DON’T think hoax `first’ — than perhaps the information we have DOES make sense - regardless of reports and investigations.

Because, to me, IMHO - I think it looks like a `large object’ - of which I’d be hesitant to speculate based on the photo’s and videos - but, does look to be (truely guessing) to be up to 100 ft across - and at a lower altitude than 1,200 feet. Additionally, both video’s show a rotating disk, like some of the initial reports and at least one person of this new batch of info confirms the `shooting into the sky aspect’ of the final moments of the event.

So, that is how I see it. A little different than most perhaps - but - does anyone else provide you the very links of the evidence. But, then again, in this day and age - does the evidence even matter - when anything can be faked?

The Oct. 14th No-Show -The Problem With Expecting `Enlightenment’ From ABOVE

As THS (The Heavy Stuff) writes this - the computer says the date is Oct. 15th - the anticipated visitation to Earth by `peaceful aliens’ on Oct. 14th didn’t occur. Enlightenment, as `channelled’ from an entity (who was conveniently thought to be an `alien’) - was not triggered by a supernatural event.; that being the displaying of an alien craft in the skys for 3 days. The event itself was supposed to catapult mankind into some new level of understanding. And to believers - to some new level of BEING.

Almost sounds like a religion, doesn’t it?

Now, THS has actually speculated about a `boost’ in consciousness in a previous posting http://theheavystuff.com/?p=47 `Could The Human Population Level `Trip’ Cosmic Consciousness’ (this was when the Earth Population Clock was moving towards 6,666,666,666 humans back in May). And, THS’s idea was simple; could some arbitrary # of increasing human beings - be JUST the exact `amount’ of `collective consciousness with mass’ -  to trigger the long sought by many `cosmic jump’ in awareness (with the accompanying love and peace - say the believers). Seems logical, doesn’t it?

Now, before you think that THS is dissing `the concept of channeling’ - think again. And, while THS hasn’t posted our `position’ on this part of our mysterious, even fortean reality — even casual investigation would seem to indicate that some `information’ can come from `non-ordinary locations’. Whether one thinks of some of Edgar Cayce’s seances; information about reincarnation; or just the events that are told in first person about someone communicating from beyond the grave.

So, yes, some information transfer is most likely possible. BUT, what is it about `expecting’ some `cosmic jump’ from such an occurrence - no matter how strange the event or information seems to a `channeler’. Is this just how the super emotionally aware `feel’? And WHY would such a  cosmic jump, if it ever occurred — be focused on `emotions’ - and not `intellect’ or `mind expansion’, literally, such as with sudden clairvoyence for all mankind’. Now THAT would be a JUMP. (Somehow in the back of all our minds we collectively sense that animals have this ability and that man may have at one time had it.)

Indeed, to THS’s mind - the desire or expectation that suddenly Peace is going to break out or harmony - do to realizing that we are NOT the supreme `monkey in the universe’ - doesn’t hold up to rational thought. Only hopeful, faithful, wishful, thinking leads one to  be a believer in such ideas. And, without trying to sound belittling to some `God’ - to believe in man’s transformation (without something like God intervening) - on a specific day at a specific time —  is simply `beyond belief’ and probably not worthy of anything but a good chuckle. It certainly is not worthy of `expectations of occurrence’ by even the paranormal internet world.

So, like Prophet Yahwah, or Blossom Goodchild or a used car salesman — if the description sounds too good - or bad - to be true — then consider its source - and be happy your mind didn’t get swept away by someones predictions. (I assume that Project Bluebeam followers will also fade for now too.)

Hey, thanks for reading - do you have a comment or opinion you’d like to share? Finally, THS would love for you to visit our sister site on Squidoo too at www.squidoo.com/theheavystuff.  Or, visit our blogroll for more great reads.

The Federation Of Light, Prophet Yahweh, Used Car Lots, And, The 72 Hour Guarantee

Hello, and welcome back to today’s edition of The Heavy Stuff (THS) - today’s topic - the promise of UFO’s in the skies for 72 hours. Yes, believe it or not, a group calling itself The Federation of Light is predicting that next month, for 72 hours, UFO’s will hang in our Earths skies to prove they exist - and to propel earthlings into a new consciousness.

As you probably know, THS has a UFO website dealing directly with Ufo Disclosure www.ufodisclosurecountdownclock.blogspot.com and only last month we detailed that The Olympics, a world event, would seem to be a natural time for purposeful UFO disclosure should `the aliens’ want to give earthlings that `needed proof’. And, of course, the aliens did not show up.

Regardless, that hasn’t stopped the Federation of Light (FOL) from predicting that Oct 08 is the timeframe for the long predicted, some would say hoped for, event. It is in uncertain times like this that many would seek for someone, something, to have the answers to all of humanities problems - and the FOL is hardly the first to predict the aliens will choose to `show themselves’.

The interesting thing of interest to THS when first reading this was the commonalities the prediction had with a particular man called Prophet Yahweh just over three years ago. If you don’t remember that, the Prophet, who claimed to have `called spaceships’ over 1,500 times - was being interviewed live on a Las Vegas TV station when he indeed appeared to `call a spaceship’ after a prayer. The TV reporter seemed astonished - here’s that link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fMcvAvrjmA - it’s 1:58 of video that will amaze you.

As you saw, the TV station picked the time and place for the `calling’ and after the prayer indeed a `orb’ or `light’ appeared in the sky and was recorded on video. The result of that exposure made Prophet Yahweh an instant celebrity and he boldly predicted that he would be able to call the `spaceships’ for 72 hours over the coming July 4th holiday. It was that 3 day guarantee that caught THS’s attention with this new claim by the FOL.

Obviously, UFO’s didn’t sit over the Vegas skies in 2005 for three days, and therefore the Prophet faded from public interest. However of interest was that THS (meaning the editor of THS, before THS existence) exchanged a number of e-mails with the Prophet. Below is an excerpt of one of those e-mails from our files:

In my opinion, you certainly have earned the right to reveal what you
have researched and what you believe to be important. I know that
because you say that Yahweh provides you these `events’ you believe
the voice in your head as you see the visable outcome (and so do
others). This is indeed beyond what even a David Blaine has been able
to do as far as suspend others beliefs as to what is possible.

Have you hit up Ted Serios yet on Google?

Sir; I ask you to consider that I MAY BE RIGHT as to why the
SUMMONING events occur at your `command’ (or Yahweh’s). You have, in
whatever manner, been able to generate what I’d like to call `a
tangible belief’ that `becomes an event’ — that is then `able to be
videotaped’. Sir; I beg your indulgence to consider that what occurs
MAY have a basis in reality that at best is only partially related to
`Yahweh’ but 100% connected to you. All thru your beliefs and
intentionalities which `set up’ moments of `tangible phenomena’ which
is `transient in nature’. I’m sorry to say — that very unique
ability may have nothing to do with religion at all —— or this
whole business about `which religion is right or wrong’.

That said, you are indeed a challenge to the `power structure’ –
especially if your focus is JUST getting the idea of Yahweh across.
After all, their beliefs don’t have someone doing the impossible for
the cameras.

In some of THS’s early posts we speculated that what actually is being `put into the skies’ or may being seen in the skies — are what is commonly called `orbs’ — but what THS refers to as `Tulpa’s’. THS literally believes that it is possible to `set up’ `consciousness balls’ for viewing - but that the Tulpas only have `so much energy’ and eventually `fade out’. (Which is why none hang in the skies for days on end.)

Which brings us back to the FOL claims about the upcoming event they predict. Once again, we see an attempt to `set up expectations’ about 50 days in advance of THE BIG EVENT. It makes one wonder that if the FOL’s point of view is disseminated enough - and has enough `believers’ - that perhaps some sort of an event may occur.

For example, would it be possible that `while sleeping’ enough of these worldwide believers could somehow summon a common `lucid dream’  of a UFO in the sky? And, that IF it happened the `belief’ would `grow’ into an ongoing event? ———– Don’t hold your breath.

No, instead, like all the endtimers before them, those who predict a certain date, in the future, for ANY event - are nearly certain to be disappointed. Indeed, it’s much like believing the words of a used car salesman and his promise of a 72 hour guarantee.

Thanks for reading. Make sure to bookmark and return often. You can find that FOL link on my anomalies site dated Sept. 5th at www.squidoo.com/anomalyman or if you want UFO videos and more go to our other site www.squidoo.com/anomalies.

Edgar Mitchell’s Integrity VS Big Media Spin Machine

In February, on The Heavy Stuff’s  (THS) `other’ blog - Ufo Disclosure Countdown Clock (UDCC) - we ran this post http://ufodisclosurecountdownclock.blogspot.com/2008/02/unofficial-un-intentional-disclosure.html about how Edgar Mitchell was now `talking outloud’ about the alien presence. It turned out that a friend of THS had seen Mitchell at a movie screening and that he talked with the public then, months ago , — as he has recently to the media in an interview that you can easily hear online. You have probably heard a snippet or two in the last week on CNN or even FOX news too. Yes, you have now had a description of aliens by an astronaut on TV.

Anyways; in FEB. we laid it out in UDCC -  the main questions would be: how would NASA react and how would the media react. NASA has coldly, and reluctantly,  replied that it is not in the `cover-up’ business. That is about as close as we will get to the `official’ government position THS surmises. Pathetic? Yes. Expected? Yes.

But, we don’t have to worry - we have that free press that is so touted to us (by our government spokespeople) as being FREE to print and to say what they please. Yeah, right.

While NASA chops, scoops and cooks bits of Mars soil - looking for that confirmation that we on Earth are NOT the only `life’ in the universe; that has ever existed (could this get more humorous for the 21st century) —— we have ONE OF THEIR OWN - spilling the beans Intentionally, Un-officially. Don’t you think NASA owes more than a one paragraph response? THS does. Evidently NOT the media.

Because, now, the media has to spin this one way or the other.

Since THS reads on the internet that Mitchell had ties with the first X-Files movie — perhaps he has interests in that area now? Wouldn’t THAT be a good way for a spinning media to paint this? Financial gain, of course. Paint it with a broad media brush based on nothing real about this time around - just infer the previous connection. Innuendo works great when it’s money that is used as the motive.

Perhaps it was Mitchell’s desire to bring enlightenment to the public? I can hear the media’s laughter from here in Georgia. (Then again, CNN is less than 30 miles.) ONLY kooks try to bring enlightenment to the masses. It is never portrayed differently. Think of Perot.

So, what would a REAL MEDIA do - one that was free of `monitoring’ by the government on certain issues. Well, a Real Media, would be sitting outside of other astronaut homes; getting comment. Perhaps a Real Media would even ask those that were with him on the Moon if he is a man of integrity — or, would he make all of this up - for a few dollars?

Perhaps, a Real Media would question the government motives for keeping this a small story. Perhaps a Real Media would talk about the implications if the story is true.

Perhaps…………. if we had a real media ——————— instead of a spin machine.

Got a comment?

In Search Of `The Wonder’

One of The Heavy Stuff’s (THS) favorite books ever was written by P.D. Ouspensky called `In Search Of The Miraculous’ — it’s an amazing book by an amazing thinker. The highlight of the book is when the `miraculous’ happened the first time to Ouspensky; indeed, the words he wrote were “and then the miracle happened” (perhaps a future post will be about Ouspensky) — in this case it was more than a eureka moment or particular thought for Ouspensky - it was a physical, ontological, event. I will let you read the book for more - here’s a link for that http://theheavystuff.com/?page_id=75

But, where does one turn in this day and age for a touch of the miraculous - or even wonderment? For most folks in the USA it would be the internet - be the subject matter science, religion or `the esoteric’. And, today’s post will deal mostly with `the esoteric’ - no surprise there, right? So, just where can one turn on the internet to be provided daily, or nearly daily, a dose of `the wondrous’?

Glad you asked - as THS has assembled for you a listing of such internet reads. And, yes, IT’S RANKED — based on THS interest overall.

10th - Professor Hex http://professorhex.blogspot.com/ The Scholar of the Strange and Mysterious — THS comment> Currently the Professors page has probably 100 links back to June 20th or so - a month of esoteric posts with his sharp comments about the links he provides. Great selection of links. Good range of content. HUGE, HUGE ARCHIVE - this is not a new site. Here’s an example link and description — A coded letter sent last year to the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois has the lab, and outside coders stumped. The letter was sent anonymously last March in a hand-addressed envelope via regular mail to the physics lab’s public affairs office.  Yep, cool links — oh, and did I say it has a HUGE blogroll of cool sites. Do not miss this webpage.

9. j. Orlin Grabbe http://orlingrabbe.com  THS Comment > First, all of these sites have uniqueness and focus - this one is no different in that respect. This site features a more political focus than many and very few UFO type stories. The site has GREAT pictures (20 on site today) of an esoteric focus. ALL kinds of links - but limited to one line descriptions - site has about 200 links and updates frequently to daily. (none are marked timewise) This is a sample link - described as the economics of bribery in third world countries. http://www.american.com/archive/2008/january-february-magazine-contents/graft-paper

8. Surfing The Apocalypse      http://www.surfingtheapocalypse.net  THS Comment >This site is much more political and very rough on the government viewpoint. It is updated daily and the site had about 120 links. Great categories to explore with older material. Lots and lots of content. Here’s a sample link http://www.surfingtheapocalypse.net/cgi-bin/forum.cgi?read=207897 about contrails.

7. Anomalies, Ufo’s, ParaNormal and Mind Perceptions http://www.squidoo.com/anomalymanTHS Comment > Ok, Ok, so our sister website is on this list too. Listen folks, it’s a great site with over 200 links of esoteric material from just the last 60 days. This webpage features lots of ufo links, posts from this blog, and the very hottest stories breaking in anomalies. With links to more varied content than nearly any on this listing - including similar sister sites on Squidoo. - such as www.squidoo.com/theheavystuff- which lists every posting from this blog in one easy to read spot. Squidoo has over 600,000 pages — as of today - this page is in the top 1,000 ——– speaks for itself. A typical heavy link found on the site might be like this http://noosphere.princeton.edu/ - the link to the heaviest anomaly of alltime and the first post that THS ever did on this site.

6. The Debris Field http://thedebrisfield.blogspot.comTHS Comment > To THS this website is the number one for UFO’s and current ufo info - often you can find 20 links a day and most are about ufo’s. Leslie, the editor, also is a writer on various blogs and highlights her daily writings and life too on this blog. The blog has many pictures and more of a `female’ tone to it. THS really likes the black background of the page too. Overall, the page has a weeks worth of diverse links numbering over 100. Leslie picks up posts from this blog, and THS gets many hits from the archive - which you won’t want to miss. Less commentary than some - but lots of links. This is an example of a recent link http://thedebrisfield.blogspot.com/2008/07/noted-ufologist-robert-hastings.html

5.  Phantoms and Monsters – http://naturalplane.blogspot.com  - THS Comment > The cool thing about this generally esoteric site is that is that it occasionally has `exclusive’ type content of a highly unusal nature that is mailed to the website. Such as a link there now about a fisherman who saw an entity next to his boat on July 21st. Lon, the editor, picks just a FEW stories a day to feature and many video’s are in the mix and playable from his site - a fun feature not found on many similar content sites. Great blogroll and over 2 years of archived material easily available.

4. Fark -  http://www.fark.com/  THS Comment > This search for the wondrous is 20 links a day, described with humor and attitude, grouped into categories - such as asinine, amusing, cool and so forth. And, while you won’t find much of a esoteric nature, you will find lots that is wondrous and beyond belief. The strange newspaper things you find once a week in your hometown paper are featured here for everyday consumption.

3. Reality Carnival - www.realitycarnival.comTHS Comment  > This is Clifford Pickovers one GREAT link a day site - with the most selective list of alltime material found on the net. Such as this recent gem http://www.artgarfunkel.com/library.html – yes, this is a list of every book read by Art Garfunkel in the past 40 years — almost every link is this heavy. Lots of focus on numbers, science, math, and consciousness. NUMBER one thinking website on the whole internet.

2. The Daily Grail - http://dailygrail.com/ THS comment > From the other side of our planet (Aussies run this) comes this absolute gem of a website with up to 20 daily described links  - similar to Fark meets the Anomalist.com — described links, written intelligently. Almost all the sites listed here could keep you busy for hours and this is no exception. Here’s a sample link — perhaps the best `example link’ on this listing — http://metgat.gaia.com/blog/2008/7/awesome_phenomena_at_the_saturday_night_club

1. The Anomalist — www.anomalist.comTHS Comment > Quite simply, the best descriptions by the best editor (Rick Stokes) of the best links in Esoteric Thought. Great blogroll and archive. Tons of daily links featuring a UFO section and a weird, esoteric section with inspired esoteric writers found no where else. Sets the standard in  daily links which gets copied by many other sites. A supporter of this blogs posts (only number 4 above has never carried this blog). THE best books in the margin to check out. Carries a week of links that numbers over 150. Covers quantum mechanics to Bigfoot with equal measure - yet, often provides the skeptical viewpoint too. The best balance of religion, science, and renegade thought on the internet. Has picked up where Fortean Times left off several years ago.

Have a site I missed? Leave a comment. Thanks for reading. If you want to provide support via paypal for THS - a link is now in the margin - thanks. Oh, and if you like weird, high strangeness material - try one of THS’s Squidoo sites such as http://www.squidoo.com/anomalies - great videos and more.

The Transformation of Ideas Through Temporal Characters*

This blog spends many posts talking about `the wonderous’ - including words spent describing such things as the reality experienced during mutual hypnosis between two subjects - and - even - `real subjectivity’ in our talks about the Pilots of Eastern Flight 401; who appeared in the flesh as themselves on flights that included the parts of their failed plane.

As you know, they appeared, as doppelgangers nearly identical to themselves, but `disappeared’ when their `realness’ was forced to confront the common human consensus idea of what was/is possible - after all, that is all that could happen - they were dead.

But, the IDEA of the pilots - the idea they had of themselves - as personally watching over L1011’s (the type of jet they crashed) - was not dead. And, was, in some manner -able to actualize - into a termporal `character’ — character in our meaning - the transformation into a space that `looked like’ the `information’ that represented what the pilots - looked like. Literally.

They were transformed - formed - into - temporal characters (spaces). BUT - as temporal characters - they lacked what we normally consider `solid space’ - which is rooted in a different `area’ of space.

Along the same lines - might other anomalies and paranormal entities fall into the same category. Temporary beings. Temporal characters that represent ideas. Such as the Bigfoot type entities that were reported on the Skinwalker ranch - or - for that matter - any type of Bigfoot or mothman or chupacabra. Could these entities be IDEAS? Could they be ideas that transform into temporal characters - like memes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme

Could ghosts be the same thing? Could ghosts be the remaining `idea’ that one has of oneself after ones demise? Could UFO’s be an idea that is transforming into a temporal character? Is it the `temporal nature’ of these `things’ `ideas’ `entities’ that makes an objective `specimen’ impossible?

Could even evolution, consciousness, or intelligence manifest in the same manner? Is everything an idea that shows only its temporal character - is this a description of reality?

Nothing like - The Heavy Stuff.

The Wink Factor Index - Part Two

Hi, welcome back - Happy 4th of July to you from THS (The Heavy Stuff). Today’s post is the promised TOP 5 Topics that will place you on the Wink index. The top 5 `crazy topics’ that will bring an argument - or - the disbelieving `wink’ - from those near to you, ready to assign you to the loony bin - or - to at least make sure you don’t get an invitation to the next social gathering. So, without futher ado, the top five:

5th

Topic - Aliens - Wink Factor Index, 55. It’s one thing to profess belief that there are unidentified things in Earth’s skies and another to indicate a professed belief that the `aliens’ have arrived (except, ironically, for our Mexican `immigrants’, of course). Indeed, it’s only that `far out one’ of the family that would truly argue the point that aliens are here.

And, IF the `far out one’ of the family goes the final step and says that `multiple alien races are here’ - rest assured that the giggles and questions about `how you know’ will be significant and not without confrontation . You will be viewed as being beyond gullible - questions about wanting to buy the Brooklyn Bridge will need to be handled.

` Far out’ - will change before the families eyes to the F word - Fool. Anger in the room, if you press the topic, is a real possibility. But, ultimately, fools are not so so dangerous and you still might get that family reunion invite - just don’t expect to be re-invited to the neighborhood party.

Topic - Doppelgangers - Wink Factor Index, 60. About the riskiest angle to purport to be a believer of - on the topic of `life after death’ - is the topic of  Doppelgangers. (If this is a new term, www.wikipedia.com) THS has written considerably about Doppelgangers already, those posts can be found by reading the full list of The Heavy Stuff posts on my website at www.squidoo.com/theheavystuff  - remember, writing about the `outrageous’ does not make one so - lol.

Nevertheless, `the believer’ in Doppelgangers will present all kinds of borderline esoteric explanations and even scientific ones for how a doppelganger can exist. The winkers will stare at you. It’s then that you realize that ONLY the extreme rarity of the `Doppelganger event’ being reported in the news, or even in history - saves the `believer’ - you - from being exiled from the whole family.

Then again, 40 percent of the family has blank stares of wonderment on their faces when exposed to such a `novel concept’ by, `The Far Out Person’ of the family (note that belief in aliens only put you in the `far out person’ small letters category). In a sense they wonder if you ARE a Guru.

Finally, Doppelganger talk, is the final `acceptable’ `without shame’ `point of no return’ topic - the final three are absolutely forbidden, except for those beyond reproach. Or with mettle of steel.

Topic - The Devil - Wink Factor Index, 80. Quite simply, belief, strong belief, expressed about negative forces is unacceptable to most of the populace of society. This includes believers in God, Science, and Crystals.  So, be aware that to go on and on about exorcisms or ghost rapes or horrific Ouija board outcomes - will ONLY put you on the DO NOT INVITE list. The whispers behind your back will have YOU most closely identified with Charles Manson. Your relatives will think that you surely have a frightening tattoo somewhere - at the very least that is what your friends will think. (Bets are on a Serpent with horns.)

Really, dear readers, if you have any inclination to take on this subject, do so knowing the risk to yourself. (The amazing thing about all this is that polls show that Americans believe in the Devil more than nearly every country.)

Topic - 9/11/01 Conspiracy Talk - Wink Index Factor, 90. Knowing the kinds of sites that carry this blog, it’s impossible to think you have not run across the New World Order, or 9/11 conspiracy websites - so, THS will not try to summarize `the evidence’. Indeed, perhaps a viewing of Jesse Ventura’s latest position on the whole matter would help - you can find such videos in every search engine.

BUT, the overwhelmingly huge numbers who refuse to believe the horrific nature of the conspiracy — make even mouthing the words in public - dangerous - perhaps. Certainly, the opinion is enough to draw a loud disagreement, perhaps even a fight in a bar. The believer opinion will evoke huge negative emotions in the winkers.

The believer opinion, will make you, a persona non grata. Indeed, if you hold this opinion, you better hold your own party - and guess what, you won’t need much chip dip if you hold a  `second annual’ party - as not one person on your list of last years guests will return.  Except, perhaps, if you have friends or family that believe in number one on this listing. OMG.

Topic - ShapeShifting Reptilians Have Infiltrated World Governments - Wink Factor Index, 99. Of course, right? What else could be number one? Nothing. Because nothing else rolls into one the ultimate features of this entire Forbidden Dozen listing. The ultimate, evil, quantum mechanic, alien consciousness - government control - nightmare. Which just might represent the one-party aliens that our representatives seem to be.BUT, to believe it, to express it, is the ultimate ticket to the looney bin - the padded cell - the straight jacket. Friends and family will look at you as if you are hopeless. Beyond a fool. Beyond the Far Out One.

No, if you express THIS BELIEF you, yourself, will be looked at as if you just might be a ShapeShifting Alien - after all - who would know. Right? Your family always thought you had a long tongue, and they will avoid you and your tounge like a fly on a riverbank - especially if you expose them to this topic.

If you do find that one soul out of 100 that doesn’t end the conversation within seconds - you may want to remember and to remind yourself  - that this - must be a Lucid Dream.
