The Heavy Stuff

One of the `esoteric takeaways’ of the 1960’s and 70’s was the `tree-hugging’ phrase - “Be Here Now”. And, frankly, ultimately, it had a lot of `meanings’ - from the non-attachment of Zen, to a `re-connecting’ with the environment and spirituality, to a `self-centering’ - awareness and meditation connotation - and even more. It was a `hip’ thing to say (or - to say that you were `doing’).

(This would actually be `not-doing’ to those `into’ Carlos Castaneda.)

Anyway, that phrase BHN entered my mind again the other week and this post has been brain bubbling since then - so - let’s see how my mind treats this today. And, as you might expect - my mind generally has been mauling over the whole Phenomenology aspect of the phrase first - both in relation to `science’ and my so called Phillips Phenomenology. (see my categories (labels)  on this page for much more about PP)

The first `science’ thing that comes into my mind - is - of course, the shear impossibility to BE HERE NOW - as `all nows’ pass and have NO duration; and our actual `here’ is moving at an incredible rate of motion. All while being the pinpoint of the time-cone - with that exact balance of the actualized past `picking’ the next actualized space (the now) of the `future’.

Indeed, if we just consider THE REAL SPACE - that one (humans) occupied as matter — the `space’ that `was you’ - an instant ago ———- has truly `moved’ hugely. 

Do you know the reason?

Well, we are `traveling’ on a planet that is `rotating’; we are `traveling’ on a planet that is moving in rotation around a star; and we are `traveling’ as part of that stars rotation around OUR galaxy; and we are `traveling’ as part of the Milky Way’s `movement’ in a particular direction that all local galaxies are moving in. EVERY SECOND. Every Moment. (Indeed, I once added all this movement up and it is a large portion of 1% of the speed of light - every instant. The `here’ of `our last instant’ is `miles’ from the actual location of the `here’ of `this, our current instant’.)

So, that should put to rest in your mind that what we perceive as a permanent local space - is ONLY so - because it (every object within)  ALSO is moving at the same rate. We are matter spiraling thru space points - and have NO claim to a HERE in the human mind sense of the term. Indeed, only the `counting’ of the here’s of our space/matter - provides us with a `now’ or more precisely, a here-now,  at all.

And, before I even get to the `now(ish)’ - lets look at how human consciousness might fit into the words of this BHN phrase.

Certainly, the best connection of human consciousness lies in its own `beingness’.Beingness of the actualized past; beingness of the unactualized past; beingness of the actualized future (now); beingness of the `unactualized’ (referred to as the) future.

A beingness of `our space’ (body/matter) - a beingnessof `our minds’ (sense-knowingness of actualized memory, sense-knowingness of actualized now, sense-knowingness of actualized fantasy) - but most of all - a Beingness of Determinism via self-knowingness.

Indeed, we ARE, - our being IS, - because we KNOW the determinism we experience of space-time-and our consciousness - as only a BEING with a Ontological Knowingness can. BEINGS with ontological knowingness determine the `what is not able to not be’. That is, at least concerning their own perception structures of other SPACES (the not able to be) and other TIMES (the able to not be) - internally or externally.

(But spaces ARE NOTHING (not able to be) without duration (time - able to not be(ness) and time IS NOTHING without space to be (time needs to give a space it’s able to not be(ness) to MAKE - the determined Not Able To Not Be ————— that we call reality.

Finally, lets talk about what science has told humans about their consciousness of `our external senses of now’. First and foremost, research indicates that humans `see’ about 100 or so `frames’ of our external reality each second - YET - our consciousness picks about 8-12 of these and `molds them’ into a flowing reality for perception purposes. (Not only that - reality itself - turns on and turns off - trillions of times in that frame of reference.) I won’t even mention that what we `see’ in our brain is upside-down and the whole process needs to be righted for our senses.

But, even more important than that - at least to me - is that EVERYTHING we see —- all objects ——- are objects from the PAST — as the light that bounces off objects - which allows us to sense them -  has taken (time)(or a counted space)  to reach our retina. Time which MAKES that datum a PAST, a determined past that is UN-alterable as to its location or time of its data being sent by the light bounce.

So, if EVERYTHING outside of us is FROM the past (to us)  and is Now(ish) —- isn’t the best a human can do is - Be Here Nowish?

The Heavy Stuff (THS) welcomes you to the blog dedicated to taking positions on realities greatest mysteries - and today’s installment - `time travelers’. Why time travelers you ask? Well, recently the mainstream media has trotted out the movie staple of time travel in association with the soon to be turned on Atom Smasher in Switzerland - which will produce an energy concentration unlike any since the big bang. And, some folks have speculated that it could provide a chance for humans from the future to return to our time via a closed time-like curve. (Others have said it could create a black hole that could end Earth too).

While such speculation is harmless fun and brings to mind the fantasy speculations about how to kill your grandfather - thereby eliminating any chance of you being born - THS wants to predict that NO travelers will show up soon, next year, or probably EVER. But, as THS predicts, it won’t happen. No travelers are going to arrive in the here now. And it won’t happen for all the logic you have come to depend upon and for reasons you probably have never considered.

And, for reasons that you have never probably considered - I reference one of THS’s favorites from www.anomalist.com — from their `A’ `files’ list (which has some incredible reading by the way) — here’s that direct link http://www.anomalist.com/afiles/timetravel.html (quite an article, don’t you think?). To THS, the highlights of the A Files article are:

the moment we activate our fiendishly complex  Time Machine, we sidestep physical law, becoming a stationary non-entity relative  to the rest of the cosmos. We are unaffected by macro-gravitation. When and if we  finally re-enter normal space/time, the Earth is nowhere to be found, nor is the  rest of our solar system. Depending on the intensity and duration of our “time  warp,” we may find ourselves deep in interstellar space–with no recognizable  constellations to guide us home–or even outside of the Milky Way altogether, lost  in the intergalactic void. At this point, we come to fully appreciate the expanding universe theory, and we  realize that time travel is not all it’s cracked up to be

Indeed, if we didn’t live on a `world’ this time travel might not be so difficult. But, we live on a spinning and a `traveling’ planet.  A traveling space. A traveling planet with multiple routes - around the sun, around the milky way, and with the milky way as part of a galactic journey. Nevermind that the planet we are on - spins.

Literally, the `space’ which each of us `are’/`is’ - is traveling at a small fraction of the speed of light each moment.

Remember, the `time traveler’ will need to leave their `space-time’ to get to that `earth location’ of the past - this is the `stepping-out’ the article is referring to. Literally to `GO’ to a  new `elsewhen-location’ - to `pop-in’ to a different REAL than the one `left behind’. A REAL that has already occurred (for them-the time traveler) for them in the `distant’ past.

The anomalist.com article goes on with this:

Come to think of it, the only way a time traveler might emerge from the alternate-time-effect and find himself back on Earth, at some past or future date, would be if the Earth  was indeed stationary, at the virtual center of the universe. Charles Fort would  have fun with this concept, I can imagine………….According to more than a few theorists in the Quantum Gravity vision of Time, “particle”  is our perceptual high-speed “snapshot” of where we are at any given  point in Time. Being that apparent sub-atoms exist from the beginning of the universe  to the end in one long, coiled, synchronously-conscious entity, they must pass through  a diversity of incarnations, from slime-to-leaf-to-animate. So the molecules and  atoms and sub-atoms that make up our bodies and brains, and which we perceive as  “in existence at this point in time,” are actually recycled through many  different animates and inanimates over many ages. In fact, the human body is cellularly recycled entirely every 7 years, meaning  that our past and future atomic and subatomic components are out there in a compost  heap beyond 7 years somewhere in the past or the future.

When one begins to take into consideration of just a few of these points above - the notion of travelers from the `future’ - begins to more and more seem to be nothing more than silly movie plots.

Just changing the perspective a bit, closer to reality - may help this understanding even more.

First, it seems that any `information’ the `time traveler’ could bring into the past — would change the time travelers future. If OUR time would have access to future information - so would the TT’s too (time travelers) - the TT’s time would have visitors from it’s future with their base of information, etc, etc, in an infinite regress INTO the future. In essence, the moment a TT appeared `here-now’ would be the moment `information became free’ - at least information that `existed within the determinism of a determined future’. But, is the future determined?

Really, there is no reason to be so esoteric — just imagine `going back’ — four minutes in time. Jumping back to something `close’ so to speak.

Now, don’t forget, to get into the room you were/are in you will have to factor in the data fact that the Earth rotates the sun at about 18.5 Miles per second - oh, and don’t forget that our galaxy and neighbors are moving at 600 km/s in the direction of the constellation Hydra (Scientific American). And, don’t forget that the rotation of the Earth is up to 1,600 km/hr at the equator.

To `go back’ two minutes into the room you are in, the chair you are seating in  - means to be where the earth was — 10’s of 1,000’s of miles away - from here now. AND, WHAT EARTH WOULD BE THERE?Aren’t we on a REAL planet? That has an inaccessible REAL PAST. And a real now.

Would the past be real if it could be changed? If the elements between then and now could have a new source of information (from the TT’s) - it would be changed.

The one thing we have as a singular observer is that the past cannot be changed - and therefore it LIVES and is counted thru our observation. And, while the only Real is with the present - observers know the past was (once-counted) present. Humans know, one cannot change the past - and that a future space, cannot be `present’ - as a `real space’.

There are several websites on the internet that offer a daily listing of `high strangeness’ from www.thedailygrail.com to www.forteantimes.comto others such as my own on Squidoo. However, to me, the best selection of Forteanlike subject matter is found at www.anomalist.com  and recently - that website put together an online questionnaire for its readers to respond to. The link to those results will be at the bottom of this article. Meanwhile, I’d like to cover some of the findings of the readers answers. Anyways, the sample consisted of 449 responses - it should be noted that fewer than the whole sample answered any particular question and some questions had large omissions (meaning the % answers I’m about to give have different samples on each question - and therefore a different raw number of people saying such answers). Whew, glad that is out of the way.

First, let me state the major findings of interest to myself as one who answered the questionnaire and was a participant. Overall, these respondents (readers of anomalist.com) said they would act `brave’ IF confronted with the high strangeness that some say can occur - 74% saying they would stay in a haunted house overnight (could this be a boon industry soon), 63% would go on board a UFO, and an astounding 57% would go into a fairy realm. Frankly, to me - the Fairy Realm question was the heaviest on the questionnaire. But, the readers had a limit to their willingness to be brave - an overwhelming 90% would never summon a demon. Jump feet first into the fairy realm; but, don’t tempt the nether realm.

But, perhaps this bravery of the respondents came from personal experience? Well, yes - to a degree. 46% reported seeing a UFO at sometime in their life ( a number of these UFO experiences were close enough that the sighting was MORE than just a light in the sky - about 2/3 saw a solid object) and 42% said yes to seeing a ghost at some fleeting moment in their life. And, over half reported at least one ESP episode (56%). But, only a handful of folks said yes to ever seeing a `bigfoot’ (3%). And, while all these %’s are on the `high’ side — I’ve seen figures in print that about 5% of the population has seen a UFO relatively closely and about the same percentage on a ghost — one could expect those strata of folks to migrate to anomalist.com. - and, the ones with the most vivid experiences to answer the questionnaire.

However, all this prior unique experience with the unknown (at least once) did NOT increase the readers acceptance of the stories of anomalous phenomena in today’s world. 41% of the respondents said that only 10-30% of anomalous phenomena is described in a reliable and accurate manner and an amazing 30% thought that less than 10 percent of anomalous phenomena was being described accurately. Bottom line — it’s fine to be skeptical of any anomalous report.

However, while they may be skeptical of one high strangeness or another — here’s a comparison of the overall `beliefs’ on anomalies. By 8-1 they believe in UFO’s, by 7-1 they believe in Gov’t conspiracies to hide the truth, by 7-1 they believe in ESP, by 5-1 in Precognition, 3-1 ghosts, and by 2-1 in bigfoot and psychokinesis. A plurality also believed in angels, crop circles, and reincarnation. Out of favor and not believed are belief in fairies or chupacabras 3-1, and belief in time-travel and/or channeling 2-1.

Of the above figures, to me, the 8-1 belief in UFO’s (currently at about 50/50 in the nation I think as reported by the media) stands out - but, then again - 46% of these respondents have seen one. What also stands out is the inconsistency of peoples beliefs when it comes to the subject of time — time travel is impossible BUT foretelling the future is not — time is a tough subject to have compatible belief systems about.

But, beyond the idea of beliefs in things of high strangeness or of even experiencing high strangeness once; is the belief of the respondents that they can DO HIGH STRANGENESS. Fully 20% of the respondents thought they can do remote viewing and 26% astral projection - 49% claim an OBE as something in their experience base. A startling 1/8th claimed to have psychokinetic ability - and 62% claim animals are psychic. These are amazing claims of consciousness abilities or observations. Is it just us self-conscious humans patting ourselves on the back for figuring out such concepts?

So, is this as much a belief as it is an observation or even an action? This group of readers — perhaps much the same as The Heavy Stuff readers — seem to be in a higher state than the norm. A rarefied bunch of folks. Here’s the link to the study http://www.anomalist.com/features/survey1.html .

In my most recent post, I explained my theory of what might happen when we die — simply put — the `light’ so many describe at the NDE (near death experience) is nothing more than the Sun itself. These near death experiencers have this experience when their `body space’ `separates’ from their Earth body and `the body space’ still has the capacity for perception - commonly called an out-of-the-body experience. Further, in my post, I describe that this one act never done while living (looking directly at the Sun) is a powerful emotional experience that probably ends `most human life experience’. To me, it’s also beautiful — we (our souls, our body space) return to the Earth’s actual life source — the Sun.

BUT, (and it’s a big but) - what about Ghosts (?) - where do `they’ `fit in’? Specifically, if ghosts exist, — how do they `get to the `real’ `present’ — from their DEAD `past’? Do they `come from some remote time’? Do they have an ontological basis?

Recently on my lens www.squidoo.com/anomalymanI had a link to a `Story’ about `visitors’ from the `past’ being thrust into our present. Since we can assumed that these old time visitors were dead — it would seem to fit the case I am beginning to make. Anyway that link (found on anomalyman) is directly http://www.ufoarea.com/physics_cosmology_travelers.html . That said, I now believe just a few days later, that the story is a hoax in a way - perhaps the beginning of an urban legend. Something didn’t ring true to me and various google searches of key words about the story yield nothing except the `story itself’. It’s scary that legends can be started so easily. (Briefly, if you didn’t read this account — it states that twice in 1936 portals opened and folks from the past were seen in the streets `alive’ — then `vanished in front of the eyes’.) Anyway, I was surprised that I’d never heard that tale in my readings on Time — and when - as I said - the Google search turned up NOTHING - I felt duped to a degree. (Specifically, nothing unique other than the post comes up for terms like the authors name, city, vanished, and the `ghosts name’ - nor — Fresno, time-travel, legends.)

It makes one wonder `why’ one would `start an urban legend’ when their is REAL accounts of `Ghosts’ appearing - and vanishing - in a flash. The best known ghost `story’ and most verifiable in my opinion is none other than the Ghosts of Pilot Bob Loft and Flight Engineer Don Repo from the crashed Eastern Airlines Flight 401. If you have never heard of this story before, a few quick facts about the `case’.

First, the crash on Dec. 29th, 1972 was the FIRST EVER of a L-1011, deemed in those days the next generation of widebody aircraft. It crashed into a Florida swamp and 76 of the 176 aboard survived. Parts of the plane were actually in such good shape that they were re-used later in other L-1011’s. And, THAT is - where and when - the `real story’ of `time traveling ghosts’ begins. I will explain in a moment — but a simple google of the book written about the `ghosts’ called `The Ghosts of Flight 401′ will give you incredible information.

Again, in a nutshell, after the planes parts were recycled — Mr. Loft and Mr. Repo began to appear on flights with the recycled parts. Indeed, over 20 times they were seen on Eastern Flights. These `sightings’ included those that knew them personally and strangers. And, they even talked and acted - and vanished in a puff/instant. One flight was even cancelled. At least once, one of them appeared in a seat of a plane at 35,000 ft and flying. Reports are that they vowed to keep the L-1011’s safe. IS that `spooky’ enough for you? Is that proof of surviving death, at least for some `time’? Is it proof, of the ability of the past to come into our present? And, is this `time travel’ really?

My first analysis will point out what this is NOT. This is NOT `time travelers’ from the future — one of the staples of science fiction. And, for good reason — none of the future has EVER existed. None of it. BUT, as you know, part of the past has existed and was real. And, that folks, is a major difference - real past things - might have future time. Whereas, things that have never  existed (the future) `have no real’ - or - in my opinion - `contact’ with it (the real now).

Whew, now that that is out of the way, where does that leave the ghosts of Mr. Loft and Mr. Repo? Did they `time travel’ — I’d say maybe - for sure. LOL. I mean is it `time travel’ if ones space has never left the `real now’? And, is it proof that if one dies in unique circumstances - ones `dead space’ may continue on Earth for a time-frame which is in the now - so to speak. These `dedicated ghosts’ on a `mission’ seem to be able to continue forward their own identity for at least some `time’. It’s also obvious from the sightings of these two men that `dead body space’ can vanish. At least vanish in `our real actualize time’.

Ontologically, the chance that the past can jump into the future must be admitted - and the case of Flight 401 might be a case of it. But, the other way of looking at it is that the `space’ of Mr. Loft and Mr. Repo never left the now and don’t represent the past coming into the future. Some of us in the universe crave `the explanation’. Read books and books to find it. Wondering about how wide ranging `the answer’ might be; yet knowing that the answer must be simple. Simple not in the sense of a simpleton; but simple in that it uses common sense to provide meaning to the world’s mysteries. To use common sense to build from `the impossible event’. More on that shortly.

But first, what is the intended target of discussion in general on The Heavy Stuff? Well, this is the first vision of what should be covered — Randomness and Artificial Intelligence; Global Consciousness; Freewill and Determinism; Time and Space; The Impossibility of `movie’ Time Travel; Being and Nothingness; Lucid Dreaming; Mutual Hypnosis; Branes and Inflation; Consciousness and Awareness; Dimensions and Strings; Impossible Anomalies; Existence after `death’; Phenomenology.

It should keep one busy for awhile. And, just the scantest of background info to this first blog post. My name is Rick Phillips. About the only background that I have with anomalies is that since March of this year I’ve had a top ranked Squidoo.com `lens’ (website) called Anomalies, Paranormal and Mind Perceptions. The url is http://www.squidoo.com/anomalyman . Well I actually have another personal connection to anomalies that some I guess call the `woo-woo’ factor. Don’t worry, no aliens will be trotted out on a personal level; but, absurd anomalies will be trotted out and test any credibility that I present here. My reason for disclosing this upfront is that some of my personal experiences with `time’ and `space’ will, I’m sure, prejudice my judgements on some mysteries. All to be explained. Hopefully.

Once again, this blog will be different from the Squidoo site — while looking at some of the same anomalous events. This site is concerned with the most speculative notions about space, time and consciousness. And, what could I use as a better segway than that to the first matter of study - that being - is there `Earth Consciousness’?

I have a link on my Squidoo site http://noosphere.princeton.edu/ that you should visit - and if you visit intend to leave every notion of the world around you behind. That’s right, the `Impossible Event’ isn’t some humans landing on mars video that you can find on the web. And, no, the impossible event isn’t from some far removed Utah ranch where impossible things have been recorded. No, the `Impossible Event’ is at the Princeton University site.

Impressed? Just wait to you take the half hour to somewhat digest just what happened to a collection of data eggs on a particular day in history - Sept. 11th, 2001 to be exact. With the significance of that tragic and historic day - perhaps the fact that this story is not more widely known is to be expected. But, what is not acceptable, is that the implications of what happened within those data eggs is not more widely disseminated. Yes, the first clue to the seam in the cosmic egg might be data eggs. But, the implications are huge and should be addressed — as this obviously, is the biggest anomaly of history. IMHO.

If you are not familiar with the `noosphere’ - it is an ongoing experiment linking dozens of computers worldwide that produce a random sequence of numbers - these numbers are collected in five minute `packets’ and sent to Princeton for analysis for un-randomness. As you know, long sequences of numbers can have sessions of what seem to be un-randomness. Think about this in terms of the 11 Blacks in a row you observed at the roulette table one night - or ten dealer busts in a row in blackjack. Anyway, the analysis looks for that and maps this outcome in various ways — if you go to the site — and if it operates in the same manner — you can hear the randomness the world is creating right now (delayed 5 minutes). It is a very cool site.

But, back to the `Impossible Event’ of 9-11-2001. What happened in a nutshell was this — computers all over the world started to `act’ non-randomly. In essence as if they had consciousness. What you find as you read about this `event’ was that it was the biggest computer `event’ in years of running the 24/7 project. That’s right, this project went on for years without this magnitude of event. Oh, and it peaked around the time of the crash into the buildings. Oh, and you can see the `effect’ of each buildings falling. Oh, and the computers in America were the most affected. Oh, and the East Coast computers were the most affected. Is that enough, or should I tell you that the `effect’ can be traced back on the computer data to within minutes of when one of the hijackers first cleared security.

Heavy Stuff, huh? Amazing beyond belief in every regard - with no photo manipulation - no rigged data - no humans at the control panel. Only `linked computers’ sharing information; right? Obviously, the implications could be staggering. Are some machines conscious? At least perhaps groups of machines linked together which share information. Or, does the `effect’ on the data that morning have to do with something else all together - perhaps from the Earth itself, Mankind itself, or even time-space itself? AND, what does it mean that the computers most affected were in America and that they knew and were reacting - prior to the tragedy. What happened to cause and effect? Or, was determinism the case in this instance - or near determinism.

Just what happened on Sept. 11th in cosmology terms - to be continued.
